Many of our current projects are hitting that exciting stage where style and color begin to fill in the the rough sketches of framing and drywall. All of that time spent researching looks and styles and finishes and the endless pins and likes on Pinterest & Houzz are finally flying off the webpage and into a kitchen or living room. We also have a new porch project that just started but is already soaring in the trees. And, wait until the end for a complete surprise on our new custom home in Dawsonville.

Alpharetta — Victorian Farmhouse

This genteel farmhouse in Alpharetta has classic lines, but was looking a bit tired on the outside and the inside was no longer working well for our homeowners. The transformation from tired to wow is well underway.

Farmhouse Revival

The essence of farmhouse design is more than just artsy throw pillows and or rustic signs with painted farm animals hung on the walls. A true farmhouse design is much more focused on connections -- connecting the true heart of the home, the kitchen, more intimately with the living areas, and making it not just beautiful, but highly functional and comfortable.

Farmhouse Kitchen: Demo

A swift perusal through the latest home remodeling magazines will give a taste of the very diverse ideas trending in kitchen design right now. However, it seems that no matter the style, in design there is something that unites the current trend in kitchen remodels -- the open floor plan. What have we learned from the past? Walls are confining; they separate. Upper cabinets aren't really necessary for storage. The work of the kitchen doesn't have to be separated from relaxation or talk or togetherness. The result? Kitchens that are more connected to the rest of the home. Moms & dads rejoice! We can work AND play, talk AND cook, wash AND help with homework.

Gone Farmhouse Yet?

This decorating, design, and even architectural style is in full swing -- a fresh take on a old idea. A fresh look at a traditional, nostalgic, yet simplified version of country. It's an update on the Craftsman look with a more neutral color palette, lots more grays, not so much the greens, and lots and lots of shiplap. Move over bead board.

Old or New?

Ah, the age old question. In the word "renovation" is one opinion - new is better! Your old siding, windows, kitchen, bathroom--they have to go! "Out with the old and in with the new" is a time-worn slogan with reason. However, there is something comforting, familiar, and nostalgic about the old. This question creeps into every area of our modern existence. Do you prefer old books or new? Do you want old songs or new songs? Old-fashioned or new-fangled?
